#classroom chat

In Algebra 1, we have been working on geometric sequences. We are now moving into exponential functions, and we have had fun doing so. I checked out our computer lab, and assigned the students a basic assignment on google classroom. They graphed the functions f(n) = 3n and f(n) = 3^n on desmos, then they thought of two similarities and differences for the graphs.

Pretty basic lesson, but the new part to me was to have the students write what they noticed and wondered about the functions on the comment section of their google classroom assignment. Some students that are not very confident made very astute comments, and I was able to have a question and answer session with the class using the Q1:/ A1: model.

I was able to find more about what my students knew, because they did not have to worry about the confines of speaking to the classroom. I also got to work on giving written feedback; this is very hard for me, so I tried to practice not talking much during this time. We wrapped it up by discussing aloud the “reason the line curves”. Different classes went different directions, but all students seemed to learn.

Using google classrooms is easy, and the electronic feedback is nice. I am excited about expanding the use of classrooms in the future.

Note: this was from sometime in January, but it did not post for some reason, and I have not looked at my reader since then. 😦
